Penticton – Yogaville, Canada
August 22, 2008
Penticton, BC is officially known as Ironman City. As I write this, thousands of people (many of whom appear to be in their sixties) are preparing to swim, bike and run ungodly distances in pursuit of……don’t ask me. In all seriousness, they are truly inspiring even though I can’t personally think of a single reason why anyone would do a triathlon – except for the bragging rights and the ripped muscles. Truthfully, the city of Penticton is throbbing with vitality as the Ironman approaches.
One of the spin-offs of this fitness culture is that yoga has taken hold of this city. It’s a great off-season complement to outdoor training and you can keep showing off those muscles all year round. Penticton has at least six yoga studios (and we’re not done counting) in a population of 30,000.
As yoga teachers ourselves, we’ve been warmly welcomed. Yoga teachers of all sorts and varieties have supported, encouraged, shared and promoted our classes. This has caused us to ask “am I dreaming?”. We’ve moved to a lovely small city in the semi-desert with clean air and water, affordable real estate, lightening storms, sunny summers, cold, dry winters, a fantastic farmer’s market and an passion for yoga.
Catalyst Wellness will be launching five classes at three different locations in Penticton in September. Move over Ironman City. Make way for Yogaville.
